Orthodox Day
Questions

Frequently asked

Short answers. If yours isn’t here, write to us.

Which churches and calendars are supported?

The Greek Orthodox Archdiocese (GOARCH), the Orthodox Church in America (OCA) and the Antiochian Archdiocese, all on the New (Revised Julian) Calendar. Pick your church when you first open the app, and change it any time in Settings.

My parish does something different from the app. Who is right?

Your parish. The readings, saints and fasting come from an openly published calendar and are an approximation of each church’s own, not the church’s own publication. Your priest and your parish calendar always come first.

Where does the Scripture text come from?

The World English Bible (the “updated” edition, with the deuterocanonical books) by default, or the King James Version or the Douay-Rheims if you choose them in Settings. All three are in the public domain and shown exactly as published. Old Testament and Psalm wording can differ from what you hear in church.

Why do the Psalm numbers differ from my Bible?

Psalms follow the Septuagint numbering that the Orthodox Church uses, with the Hebrew number noted beneath. Many English Bibles use the Hebrew numbering, so Psalm 50 in the app is Psalm 51 elsewhere.

Who chose the excerpts from the Fathers?

Each excerpts is a verbatim section of a public-domain English edition (Nicene and Post-Nicene Fathers, Ante-Nicene Fathers, the Library of the Fathers, or the Catena Aurea of St Thomas Aquinas in Newman’s translation), shown with its Father, work and series.

Is the lives-of-the-saints text complete?

It gives the saints that the Prologue from Ochrid includes for each day, so it does not cover every saint commemorated. The Prologue follows the Julian date, which is the date New Calendar churches keep these saints on.

How do I cancel my subscription?

Subscriptions are managed by Apple. Open Settings on your iPhone, tap your name, then Subscriptions, and choose Orthodox Day. To avoid being charged after a trial, cancel at least 24 hours before it ends. If you cancel you keep access until the end of the period you paid for.

I bought it already. How do I get it back on a new phone?

Open the app, go to the purchase screen and tap Restore Purchase. Lifetime access stays with your Apple ID.

Can I get a refund?

Purchases are processed by Apple, so refund requests go through Apple: use reportaproblem.apple.com or contact Apple Support.

Does it need an account? What does it collect?

No account, and the app collects no personal information of its own. Your settings stay on your phone. See the privacy page for the details.

How do saved readings sync?

Saved readings and your choices (church, translation, font) sync through your own iCloud. You need to be signed in to iCloud on each device. Nothing is sent to us.

Can I get the readings as a widget?

Yes. Add the Orthodox Day widgets to the home screen or lock screen from your iPhone’s widget gallery.

Is it available in other languages? On Android? On iPad?

English only for now, on iPhone.
